Great Things In My Life

There are many things that happened in my life. Some left a sweet spot in my memory, and there are also events that you would not want to remember at all. Whether the past events were sweet memories to behold or painful experience that you do not want to mention, life have to go on. Just like driving, you will never see the future if you are always looking at the rear mirror.

However, my post today is not meant to keep looking back, but to learn from my past lesson on those events or things that I treasured and esteemed as the best things in my life. And as you read, I hope that it resonates a ripple in your heart that you too can strive to experience the same thing and be happy with your life.

I meditate on those things once in a while to encourage me. But never should they be a stumbling block for me to move forward. So, what are the great things in my life that I have now or in the past?

I have a Roof Over My Top

Yes, one of the best things I own is a house that is fully paid for that I can call home. It's a public housing build by the government called "HDB Flat". Even if it can never be compared with private condominium or landed houses, but it is good enough for me. It is a place where my family stays together and that's where we commune together and share our joy with one another.

A house is not necessarily a home. Have you seen the ultra-rich people? Some may live in huge mansion with countless rooms. If the house is often empty with only the domestic helpers and the owner, this is not a blessing but a curse.

Even though my house is small, but it is big enough for my family. It may not have a big swimming pool or big garden, but it has the more important element that a home should provide. These elements are warmth, love, peace and joy, don't you agree?

So, what am I trying to say? To many of you, be contented and happy with the house you have, no matter how small it may be. It's not the size of the house that matters, but whether your house can be called as a home for your family.

I have a Job

We are now living in a world that is unpredictable. I count it a blessing that I have a job, and I am able to bring back the bread and butter to provide for my family. As I described above, with the little salary income I have, I am able to own a house for my family.

Looking at the people in my society, there are some who are jobless. Some have lowly paid job that may hardly pay for all their bills. Many are just meeting simple end needs with all their monthly salary.

I am contented with what God has given me. Comparing what I have now with many people in the society, I count myself blessed. I may not be ultra-rich, but never do I have to worry about having money to put food on the table for the next meal. There is always enough supply to ensure that everyone in the family are adequately dressed and the basic needs met.

I am constantly reminding myself to learn from this passage in the bible, written by Paul, and the key is to be contented and put your trust in God:

Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
Philippians 4:11-13

The key from this point is, contentment is great gain. Be contented and count it a blessing in every little thing that you have. Never compare yourself with others, you do not know what other people is going through however they look on the outside. The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence, but it could just be an illusion.

I Attend A Great Church

It is a blessing to be a member of my church. I am attending the "New Creation Church" in Singapore. Under the leadership of Pastor Joseph Prince, I have learnt so much about my true identity in God.

One of the most important truth I learnt from this church is that I am the righteousness of God in Christ. As Christ is, so are we in this world. Even though I am far from perfect, but I now have the assurance that nothing I do will change my identity in Christ. I am highly favored, deeply loved and greatly blessed by the almighty God.

By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world. 1 John 4:17

Pastor Joseph Prince taught us that God's unmerited favor is for everyone. Do you feel often that you don't deserve anything from God because you are not good enough? If you have that in your mind, the good news is, you qualify for the favor and grace of God! That's what grace is all about, it is the unmerited favor of God. If you deserve it, it is no longer called "unmerited" favor.

Believe right and you will live right. This is another great teaching that I learnt in this church. How often have we lived a defeated life because we believe the wrong thing? Living a victorious life is not how hard you try to live right; you have to believe right first.

Then, you may ask, what are the wrong belief that I need to believe right? I would recommend that you get this book written by Pastor Joseph Prince called "The Power of Right Believing". I am sure you will be greatly blessed.

There are many other great teachings that I received from this church such as the power of taking Holy Communion and how it matters to our health and wholeness. I have also learnt that I no longer have to feel guilty or condemned over my past mistakes. Reason is because the penalty for all my short coming were already fully paid by our Lord Jesus Christ when He died on the cross for my sins.

My Tertiary Educations - RMIT

After receiving my diploma in a local polytechnic, I started to work as a computer programmer. I thought getting a diploma was the highest education I could ever attain. Never did I dream that I could go to university to further my studies on day.

After working for several years, my sister encouraged me to pursue higher education and she helped to persuade my mother to sponsor me for my tertiary education overseas. Without my mum's financial help, I would never be able to afford to study overseas.

Cut the long story short, I applied and got into Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in Melbourne. I eventually completed my university degree with a distinction and from then on, life was never the same.

It was amazing how an additional education in bachelor degree could help in my career. The benefits were not prominent immediately when I returned to my home country. But soon I noticed what a world of difference this piece of paper could make. The most visible and tangible benefit was that I became eligible to many more job opportunities that only a degree holder can apply.

A few years after my graduation, I landed with a job that I held on until today. I would never be able to enjoy my current position if not because of the bachelor degree I received in RMIT.

My final thought on this is, by all means, get a good education. It not only enriches your knowledge and skills, but will also open up huge opportunities for you in the secular world.

Conclusion

I am sharing those few great things that I experienced in my life not to brag about it. But I do hope that you do get some revelation out of it. You may already have what I talked about but never noticed that you are actually very blessed.
